Sort clothing before packing so you only transport what you expect to wear. Set aside an overnight bag and enough clothes for the remaining days, the journey and unexpected delays. Include suitable footwear and a layer you can use if the weather changes.
Choose the packing method
Fold ordinary clothing into clean boxes, suitcases or bags that close securely. A wardrobe box can keep hanging garments together, but check the rail's load limit. Protect formal or delicate clothing with materials appropriate to its care instructions rather than compressing it indiscriminately.
Keep the system simple
- Pack by person and season, with clear destination labels.
- Empty drawers unless the mover specifically agrees they can travel filled.
- Keep jewellery, important accessories and valuable small items with you.
- Ensure everything is completely dry before sealing a container.
Dismantle wardrobes only in accordance with their instructions and label all fittings. Record which panels belong together, especially when moving several similar units. At the new home, prioritise clothing needed for work or school and check the wardrobe is safely assembled before loading it. Leave longer-term storage decisions until the room is usable.
