Some items need to stay with you because they are essential, valuable or unsuitable for the removal load. Ask the mover for its prohibited and restricted-item list before packing. Its rules may cover fuels, chemicals, batteries, food and other contents that require separate arrangements.
Prepare a personal carry group
- Identity and moving documents, keys and payment information.
- Medication, necessary care supplies and relevant instructions.
- Phones, chargers and work equipment needed immediately.
- Small valuables, sentimental items and secure backups.
- Clothing, toiletries and basic supplies for an overnight delay.
Keep these items in a clearly separate place so the crew does not load them accidentally. Avoid using a conspicuous valuables label. Where a medicine or device has storage requirements, follow its specific instructions and plan the journey accordingly.
Make suitable travel arrangements for people and pets; they do not belong among packed belongings in a goods area. Keep contact numbers available without relying entirely on a phone that might lose charge. Before departure, check you have the keys, documents and essentials physically with you rather than simply marked complete on a list.
