Begin the kitchen by using food you already have and separating equipment you will need until the last evening. Keep a small everyday set of mugs, plates, cutlery and pans accessible, then pack occasional items first. Empty and clean containers before they enter a box.
Protect different contents
- Wrap crockery and glassware individually and stop pieces touching or shifting.
- Cover sharp edges securely and make the contents clear to the person unpacking.
- Bag small attachments with the appliance they belong to.
- Keep heavy pans in manageable boxes away from delicate glass.
Check the mover's restrictions on food, liquids and cleaning products. Do not assume an opened bottle is safe because its cap is closed. Keep leaking or hazardous products out of the general load and follow the product's handling instructions.
Photograph appliance connections and follow manufacturer guidance for disconnecting and moving equipment; arrange qualified help where necessary. Pack a first-meal kit with basic utensils, washing-up supplies and food that can be used without a fully assembled kitchen. At the new home, clean storage surfaces before unpacking food and inspect fragile items as each box opens.
Put it into practice
Use the home and moving inventory to organise your own figures or next steps. Keep its assumptions alongside your plan.
