Mirrors and artwork need protection from pressure, edge impact and rubbing. Assess the frame, glazing and surface before packing, and photograph existing condition. Valuable, large or unusually delicate pieces are good candidates for specialist packing and transport.
Protect the vulnerable parts
Use packaging suited to the material rather than applying a single method to every piece. Protect corners and keep wrapping from abrading a painted or delicate surface. Avoid putting adhesive directly on finishes or artwork unless a qualified specialist has advised the method.
Record and label
- Note dimensions and the intended destination room.
- Keep fixings and hanging instructions separately labelled.
- Tell the mover about weight, fragile glazing and any unusual construction.
- Check the supplier's stated cover and packing conditions for valuable objects.
Choose a stable, protected place to wait for collection, away from active furniture dismantling and foot traffic. Plan the destination before unloading so a large mirror is not left leaning precariously in a hallway. Unpack on a suitable clear surface and inspect each piece while packaging is available. Arrange appropriate fixing into the new wall before hanging heavy items; do not assume old fittings suit the new surface.
