The cheapest-looking moving date is not automatically the easiest date. Compare the whole arrangement: confirmed access, supplier availability, work leave, school routines, parking restrictions and how quickly you could obtain help if something changes. Price differences should come from current quotes for your move.

Compare a few realistic options

For each date, record the removal price, housing overlap, childcare or pet care, travel and any temporary accommodation. Include the cost of an extra van-hire day if collecting or returning the vehicle falls outside opening hours.

Check practical constraints

  • Establish when keys can actually be released and who will release them.
  • Check building lift bookings, loading slots and local parking arrangements.
  • Confirm the people helping you are available for both loading and unloading.
  • Ask suppliers about amendment and cancellation terms before committing.

Keep a fallback date or overnight arrangement where possible. A small overlap can give time to clean or move essential items, but calculate its total cost first. Record unresolved constraints beside each option; a low total with an unconfirmed handover should not appear equivalent to a fully workable date.

Put it into practice

Use the moving date cost comparison to organise your own figures or next steps. Keep its assumptions alongside your plan.
