Pianos, safes, large aquariums, machinery and valuable artwork need more than an ordinary box estimate. Their weight, construction and handling requirements can create risks that are not visible from overall dimensions. Identify these items at the beginning of the quote process.
Build a specialist brief
Record the make or model, dimensions, approximate documented weight, condition and any manufacturer handling instructions. Photograph the item and the full access route where appropriate. Explain steps, lifts, turns, floors and the intended final position.
Confirm responsibilities
- Who assesses the route and selects equipment?
- Does a specialist subcontractor carry out the work?
- What preparation must happen before collection?
- Which permissions or access arrangements are required?
- How are value, liability and any insurance documented?
Do not improvise with extra helpers when the equipment or route is unsuitable. Ask for a written method and quote appropriate to the object. Keep the destination clear and confirm any installation, tuning or recommissioning work is separately arranged if needed. A general van-capacity or doorway tool can support planning, but cannot approve a specialist move.
