In a furnished rental, the landlord's belongings need to be distinguished from your own before packing begins. Compare the check-in inventory with every room and mark supplied furniture, appliances and accessories. Give the removal crew a clear do-not-load list.
Reconcile the contents
- Locate supplied items moved into cupboards or storage.
- Record any replacement or removal previously agreed with the landlord.
- Check small accessories, remote controls and appliance parts.
- Note existing and current condition with dated photographs.
Do not replace, dispose of or repair an item without understanding the agreement and obtaining any necessary permission. If something is missing or damaged, communicate the facts promptly rather than hoping it will be overlooked at checkout.
Clean and arrange the property in line with the applicable agreement, keeping receipts and handover records. Deposit disputes require the relevant national and scheme process. Use England deposit guidance, Scottish guidance, Welsh tenant information or Northern Ireland guidance. The inventory tool can compare your records, but cannot decide responsibility for a deduction.
Put it into practice
Use the home and moving inventory to organise your own figures or next steps. Keep its assumptions alongside your plan.
